Women’s capacity training (minus the women)

Kohistan District, Afghanistan —
Today, we went to Al Baruni University, hoping to participate in a women’s empowerment training course. Sadly, the women didn’t show up.

Today, we traveled outside the wire again, returning to Kohistan. We inspected some more projects (as usual,) and we were supposed to end the day by attending a class designed to help empower women at a local university.

When we arrived at the university, we were disappointed to find that none had showed. We were told that they were at the school earlier, but decided to move to another location. We took that as a sign that there might be another issue that prevented us from meeting. (And, no, guys don’t attend the training wearing their body armor and weapons. Men don’t participate … we just help Afghan women teach other Afghan women.)

Oh, well. We’ll try again soon.

We’ll keep trying.
