What day is it?

Today was the last day of Camp Atterbury’s “Combat LifeSaver’s Training.”

Lots of jobs have schedules that don’t really adhere to the traditional Monday-through-Friday work week. Of course, the military is one of them.

It wasn’t until the end of class today that I realized that today is Friday. Fridays (and weekends in general) used to mean something. It meant I could sleep in late on Saturdays, plan something fun with Muna and stay up all night playing the Nintendo Wii with my little man.

But, while I’m training to deploy, the schedule has no love for the weekends or holidays. In fact, I THINK this weekend is Memorial Day weekend, but since nothing special is happening and we still have classes, it’s just another day.

To all the shift workers out there: the cops, the nurses, the military members, the nuclear missileers, the fire departments and everyone else whose job prevents them from remembering what day it is, I feel your pain. And, thank you.
