I’ve traveled a lot over the years, but I have never visited New Orleans … Until now. Taj had a week away from school (for Spring Break,) so we drove a few hours to check Louisiana off of the list.
We already knew the basics … The French Quarter is not really kid-friendly. But, we took Taj with us anyway. (We made sure we got off the streets before it became dark.)
We had a nice time taking a walking Creole-n-Cajun culinary tour, and did the obligatory stops at some of the more famous landmarks. The beignets (French doughnuts) at Cafe Du Monde were nice, and it was fun looking through the windows at some of the old buildings with the balconies and local mom-n-pop bars. The swamp tour was great!
I’m not sure we’ll return to the French Quarter, but I look forward to returning to see the REST of New Orleans (the non-tourist-trap area.) I’m hoping there are lots of great things to see that don’t involve bars, booze -n- beads.
