Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan —
Today I had an Afghan dinner. Lamb and rice, with bread. Delicious! The bread is my favorite … it’s just like Indian naan.

Today was another treat for dinner. Afghan food.

I’ve been playing Russian roulette with my stomach lately, daring to eat the local cuisine.

I’ve been pretty lucky lately, and I haven’t gotten sick yet (knock on wood.)

The rice is good … it has raisins in it with pieces of lamb. It reminds me of what Muna calls her “Somali” rice. The bread reminds me of Indian naan … the kind Muna and I used to eat when we met at Moti Mahal (an Indian restaurant near the Embassy I worked at.)

I also had some kabobs. Also good.

I Skyped Muna today, and was also able to speak with my mother, who flew in to check on Taj while he recovers from the flu. I’m glad she’s there.

Wish I was, too.
