Afghanistan pics

Current date/time in Afghanistan

Despite it’s political problems, the country of Afghanistan is actually quite beautiful. (Dusty and hot in the summer and freezing in the winter, but still beautiful.) I’m not an anti-capitalist, but there’s something to be said for untouched land that doesn’t have a Starbucks on every corner.

Within Afghanistan, Bagram Air Field is very much like a small city. It’s got most of the amenities you could ask for: shopping, recreation, etc. It’s a nice metro area amidst the middle of Afghanistan’s open landscape. Aside from the occasional rocket attacks, it provided a crude version of home for most of us.

On the other hand, Forward Operating Base Morales-Frazier is not so luxurious. There are few FOBbits there, and conditions are such that the FOB serves as a constant reminder of the sacrifices service members make when deployed.

Aside from these two places, it’s outside the wire where I took the more unusual photos. The ‘stan is a beautiful, yet dangerous place. And the areas that have been untouched by coalition forces offer the most unique opportunities to see something I’ve never seen before.

This page is reserved for pics I’ve taken while serving in Afghanistan, whether inside Bagram Air Field, out at FOB Morales-Frazier, or outside the wire (in the local communities of the country.) Click on a pic to enlarge it, or click “play slideshow” to see larger pics scroll on your screen. See a video of my first Blackhawk landing at the bottom of the page.

If any of the places look familiar to you, feel free to email me and share your story. Warriya!
